Cooperation between ICRC, Belarus' Justice Ministry lauded

MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) - Magne Barth, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Russia, Belarus and Moldova, met with Belarus Justice Minister Oleg Slizhevsky and welcomed the results of bilateral cooperation, BelTA learned from the website of the Justice Ministry.

The parties reviewed the cooperation between the Justice Ministry and the ICRC in recent years. The head of the regional delegation noted, in particular, that the ICRC thinks highly of the practices of the Commission on International Humanitarian Law at the Council of Ministers of Belarus and uses them as the gold standard as it assists similar commissions of other states.

Oleg Slizhevsky and Magne Barth agreed to organize the seventh regional seminar on ways of enforcing international humanitarian law in Belarus. It was emphasized that the choice of Minsk as a venue is based on its importance as a strategically important platform for interstate dialogue.

The Justice Ministry was invited to take part in the events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, the key instruments of international humanitarian law. The participants of the meeting discussed the main trends in the development of international relations and the challenges faced by states and humanitarian organizations in enforcing international humanitarian law.
