BREST, 23 June (BelTA) – The contest of initiatives under the project “Support to Local Economic Development at the Local Level in the Republic of Belarus", which is financed by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in association with the Belarusian Economy Ministry, is expected to draw huge interest in Bereza District and Kobrin District, regional coordinator of the project Yelena Budnik told BelTA.
The new contest under the EU/UNDP project is aimed at developing entrepreneurial activity and supporting business initiatives in 12 pilot districts of the country. They include Bereza District and Kobrin District of Brest Oblast. Financial support will be provided for cluster and socially significant business initiatives.
The organizers expect the contest to attract many participants. The previous contest of business ideas, that was held in May-June 2019, received over 300 applications from Brest Oblast. Two initiatives that won the contest are already being implemented in the region, Yelena Budnik said.
For example, “School of Business” was set up in Kobrin. On 26 May, it hosted the first event. The school intends to hold a series of free trainings for entrepreneurs and youth events “Young Entrepreneur” featuring successful representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises of Brest Oblast. An environmental and ethnographic center started operating in Bereza District. The two facilities have obtained the status of a business support center.
The organizers held a webinar to explain the terms of participation in the contest of initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship on 23 June.
The project “Support to Local Economic Development at the Local Level in the Republic of Belarus" is set to run for three years: from February 2019 to 31 January 2022.
