Conference in Grodno to focus on new methods of studying history of Europe, Belarus

GRODNO, 12 December (BelTA) – The Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno will host an international scientific conference on 12-13 December. The conference will focus on Belarus' in the context of European history and is expected to gather over 280 scientists from six countries, the university's press service told BelTA.

The conference will gather historians from Belarus, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Quite a lot of prominent scientists will participate in the conference.

Panel sessions will be held to discuss new approaches, sources, and methods in studying history of Europe and Belarus. Modern historiography and source studies will be discussed as well as state development processes in Belarus in conditions of geopolitical transformations in Europe. The conference's topics will also include political history, the effect of wars and revolutions on the fates of Belarusians and Europeans, Belarus' economic modernization in the context of European processes, and Belarus' culture as part of the European cultural civilization. Participants of the conference will also talk about the confessional history of Belarus from the point of view of European discourse, the press service said.

Results of the conference will be summed up on 13 December. Presentations of historical editions will take place on that day as well.

The conference has been organized by the Belarusian Education Ministry, the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, and the History Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB). The conference is timed to the 80th anniversary of the university's foundation and the 65th anniversary of historical science in the Grodno university.
