Citizens of Israel, Germany, USA opt for online registration with Belarusian police

MINSK, 4 February (BelTA) – About 1,000 foreigners, who have come to Belarus, have used the online registration option since it was made available on 2 February. Citizens of Israel, Germany, and USA are the most active users, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry website.

One in ten of the foreigners, who came to Belarus in 2019 and sought registration, have been able to do it online and for free using the digital services dedicated website portal.gov.by. The most active users of the online procedure came from Israel, Germany, USA, Italy, Turkey, Poland, China, Georgia, France, UK, and Spain. A Turkish citizen, who entered Belarus via the Minsk National Airport on 1 February, was the number one thousand foreigner.

Foreigners are free to get registered with the citizenship and migration service online for free without having to go to the nearest office in person. The number of online registrations is expected to go up, particularly during the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019.

The Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry and the website operator – the National Center for Electronic Services – are busy improving the service taking into account feedback from users. Some of the users fail to create an account on the website. Incorrectly typed data is the most frequent reason. Since the website has to verify the information users enter against multiple databases containing data about foreigners, even a single wrong symbol can result in denied registration. An absolute majority of the failed attempts is caused by incorrect information.

Foreign citizens do not have to carry a proof of the successful online registration. But a hardcopy of the screenshot of the successful registration notification can expedite things during control procedures at the border.

The Citizenship and Migration Department of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry would like users to report all problems encountered during the online registration process. It can be done by calling +375 (17) 218-55-08 during working hours. Alternatively problems can be reported to the technical support of the National Center for Electronic Services at +375 (17) 229-30-00, extension number 713.
