CIS members mulling over joint cultural activities

MINSK, 18 November (BelTA) – The CIS member states are interested in organizing joint cultural events, Belarus Culture Minister Yuri Bondar said as he took part in the 35th session of the CIS Council for Cultural Cooperation on 18 November, BelTA has learned.

“For many years, the council has acted as a coordinating body in the field of culture in the CIS and given a unique opportunity to demonstrate the cultural diversity of the CIS member states. Its experience shows a growing interest from the CIS countries in joint cultural events which is consonant with the goals set forth in the CIS cultural cooperation concept,” Yuri Bondar said.

According to him, cultural self-expression and a cultural dialogue are getting more and more pronounced in the countries' diplomatic activities, facilitating resolution of disagreements and harmonization of mutual interests. “Of course, our council should play a special role in the development of these mechanisms. This strategy is based on the recognition of values of an intercultural dialogue that ultimately becomes an interpersonal dialogue, involving all groups of the society and contributing to the promotion of common values and ideals and stronger integration within the CIS," the minister added.
