CIS measures to bolster stability, security emphasized

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – The Commonwealth of Independent States persistently and consistently takes measures to bolster stability and security. Director of the Department for Cooperation in Security and Counteraction of New Challenges and Threats of the CIS Executive Committee Albert Druzhinin made the statement during the session of the CIS council of heads of financial intelligence services on 14 November, BelTA has learned.

According to the source, the Commonwealth of Independent States has been taking measures to bolster stability and security and jointly counteract modern challenges and threats since its inception. The CIS council of heads of financial intelligence services plays an important role in it.

Albert Druzhinin mentioned efforts to ensure an adequate and effective response to the growing aggressiveness of international terrorism as a priority. The council's contribution to detecting persons involved in the operation and financing of terrorist organizations, to counteracting the legalization of and seizing criminal proceeds was noted as well as the contribution to improving the legal base of interstate cooperation.

Albert Druzhinin said that security in the Commonwealth of Independent States directly depends on the general level of interstate cooperation. During the Dushanbe summit on 28 September the heads of state exchanged opinions about work within the framework of the CIS and prospects of improving it. Close attention was paid to cooperation in security matters. In particular, an interstate program of joint efforts to fight crime in 2019-2023 was approved. An agreement on cooperation of the CIS states in fighting cybercrimes was signed. The document updated methods and forms of joint actions in this area.
