CIS experts to come up with projects to match prioritized fundamental research areas

MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) – Experts will meet at premises of the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 12-13 December to reconcile a draft list of promising scientific projects, which match priority areas of fundamental research of the CIS member states, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee told BelTA.

The CIS Council for Cooperation in Fundamental Science had initiated the creation of the list. In conditions of the establishment of the digital economy and an innovative society in the CIS space, it is of current interest to improve mechanisms of cooperation of the CIS states in the area of science. It is of current interest to pool efforts of CIS scientists in the quest for new forms of interaction in the sphere of fundamental research in order to resolve problems inherent in the modernization of the national social and economic systems and improve the wellbeing and living standards of the people.

Creating an effective mechanism to coordinate integration processes in the area of science and technology is one of the tasks the establishment of the common R&D space in the CIS involves. At the same time there are a number of problems arising from the lack of priority avenues of cooperation, the financing of joint programs and projects, the encouragement of young scientific personnel, the distribution of rights to the intellectual property assets that joint fundamental research programs and projects produce.

The adoption of the document will help build the common scientific space and an integral mechanism for cooperation in scientific endeavors of the CIS states. It will help form a common system of priorities of the CIS states in the area of fundamental research. In turn, it will help bolster the competitive ability of CIS scientists on the world market.
