CIS experts discuss joint projects, cooperation in culture

MINSK, 19 November (BelTA) – The CIS Council for Cultural Cooperation held a meeting via a video link on 18 November, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, the National Historical Museum of Belarus, the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music, the International Delphic Committee and the CIS Executive Committee.

"Members of the council heard out a report on the state policy in culture in Uzbekistan, reviewed the results of cultural cooperation in 2016-2020, discussed a similar document designed to run in 2021-2025 and a draft plan of events dedicated to the Year of Folk Art and Cultural Heritage which is planned to be declared in the CIS in 2022," the press service said.

The CIS representatives gave a high approval of the Shymkent – the 2020 CIS Capital of Culture in light of the circumstances due to the pandemic. In 2021, the status of the CIS Capital of Culture will be awarded to Dushanbe.

The participants of the meeting generally approved the drafts of the concept of a virtual museum of CIS cultural heritage and a plan of major events to set it up and instructed to draw up a regulation on the museum. Based on the proposals of the member states the website of the CIS Executive Committee has launched a page (section) for the museums with virtual expositions.

The members of the council also considered issues of international cooperation of the arts universities of the CIS states, cooperation to preserve and restore written heritage and to promote national cultures.

The next meeting of the CIS Council on Cultural Cooperation will be held in Belarus in 2021 within the framework of its presidency in the CIS.
