CIS Anti-Terrorism Center invited to contribute more to fight against terrorism

MOSCOW, 29 January (BelTA) – Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zas put forward proposals on practical interaction in the sphere of fight against terrorism as he met with Head of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center Andrei Novikov in Moscow on 29 January, BelTA has learned.

The Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center signed a memorandum of cooperation. Stanislav Zas noted: “In particular, we are interested in the possibility of involving CIS Anti-Terrorism Center representatives in exercises of special operations forces, which make part of the CSTO collective rapid response forces.”

In turn, Andrei Novikov noted that the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center does a lot to coordinate the search for criminals and terrorists in the CIS space. There are over 7,000 wanted persons in the center's database. Andrei Novikov said he was interested in using the CSTO's military potential for counterterrorism actions arranged by the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center. “I believe it is necessary to practice interaction between the militaries of the CSTO member states and special operations forces of law enforcement and security agencies of the CIS states in the course of the annual exercise Antiterror,” Andrei Novikov noted.

The sides also discussed the compilation of a common CSTO list of terrorist organizations.
