MINSK, 26 April (BelTA) - On the International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day, established by the UN at the initiative of Belarus, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Ambrazevich took part in a commemorative event on the occasion of the 37th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The deputy minister together with representatives of other national government bodies and public associations laid flowers at the memorials "Chernobyl Victims" and "Hiroshima Peace Memorial" in the Peoples Friendship Park in Minsk paying tribute to the heroism of clean-up workers.
Restoration of the affected regions and their sustainable development have been among the priorities for the Belarusian government. The thematic meeting of the Council for Sustainable Development, held in Minsk on 17 April 2023 contributed towards addressing this problem. It explored the possibilities of improving the work of the government to develop the economic and human potentials of the affected regions, to strengthen strategic partnerships, attract innovations and investments for sustainable social and economic development of the Chernobyl-hit territories.
