Call to reduce working hours for mothers with many children in Belarus

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) - The Labor and Social Security Ministry proposes to introduce a seven-hour working day for mothers with many children and keep their salaries intact, Belarus' Labor and Social Security Minister Irina Kostevich said in an interview with the STV channel on 18 October, BelTA has learned.

“We have carefully looked into the possibilities of the Labor Code. Today we want to offer mothers with many children to switch to flexible hours, reduce the working day from eight to seven hours. The salaries will be paid as for an eight-hour working day. Our proposal has been supported. We will offer MPs to support certain adjustments to the Labor Code,” Irina Kostevich noted.

Speaking about the measures of state support for large families, Irina Kostevich said that the family capital program has been very effective. "Today we have 110,000 large families in the country. Since the program was launched the increase has been significant," she said.

According to the minister, 24,000 families have already taken advantage of the family capital program. Of these, 90% spent the money on housing, 6% - on education for elder children, 4% - on medical services.
