Call to raise status of young scientists in Belarus' scientific community

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Our task is to raise the status of young scientists in the scientific community, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists at the Belarusian Education Ministry Aleksei Yermakov said during a roundtable in BelTA's press center on 26 January.

“Our goal is to involve students in science from their first year of study, help them secure a hold in this field and become an independent and experienced scientist. The Council of Young Scientists at the Education Ministry was set up in early 2020. It is an advisory body that draws up recommendations and proposals for improving the state support system and conditions in universities for unlocking the youth's potential and helping them obtain success and recognition in science,” Aleksei Yermakov noted.

According to him, the council works on two main avenues. “The first one is to draw the youth to science and create the image of a young scientist. The second avenue is assisting postgraduate students with thesis defense. The goal of the Council of Young Scientists is to consult the youth and prepare them for thesis defense at the Higher Attestation Commission and the expert council. I know that Belarusian State University and Belarusian State Pedagogical University hold Weeks of Postgraduate Students. We would like other universities to adopt this practice,” Aleksei Yermakov said.
