MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) - Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova visited the social and pedagogical center with a shelter in Zavodskoy District of Minsk to wish children happy holidays as part of the Our Children charity campaign, BelTA has learned.

Currently, 27 children aged 3 to 17 reside at the center. The children put together a small theatrical performance for the guests, featuring well-known characters such as Snegurochka (The Snow Maiden), Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost), and Baba Yaga.
Veronika Kho, a pupil at the center, said that she and the other children had been preparing for today’s celebration for a long time. They rehearsed skits, learned songs and poems, and chose costumes. “We’ve been looking forward to this day. We really wanted to take part in a show,” the girl told journalists.

The role of the Snow Maiden went to Nikol Shishko. Together with the horse character, the symbol of the upcoming year, she thwarted Baba Yaga's cunning plan and helped Grandfather Frost make it to the children's show. “For me, the New Year is a joyful holiday. The main symbol of the celebration is the Christmas tree,” Nikol noted.
Natalya Kochanova emphasized that the Our Children campaign is one of the kind traditions established on the initiative of the president. “During the campaign, children feel joy of the upcoming holidays. We also feel the warmth of their hearts. They are very responsive, eager to share their impressions, thoughts, and wishes. The social and pedagogical centers host children of various ages, from as young as 3 years old to almost adulthood. We see that the children get along very well, they are friends,” she said.
Natalya Kochanova added that there are strong pedagogical teams working in such institutions who support children during difficult times. “These children are special because they are very open. They tell us what they want to become. They have good aspirations in life. One wants to become a mechanic, another a welder. Overall, the children understand the importance of hard work and studying. And of course, during these days, our state is doing everything to ensure that every child feels the joy of the holidays, that no one is left out. There are situations where a child, for objective reasons, cannot celebrate this holiday at home with their mother and father. That’s when the educators step in to help. We address the words of recognition and gratitude to them for their work. They give a part of their hearts to ensure these children are not overlooked and are supported,” Natalya Kochanova said. She wished the children success in their studies and all the best for 2026. Natalya Kochanova also presented the institution with a gift certificate and gave gift sets to the children.

The social and pedagogical center with a shelter in Zavodskoy District of Minsk is the largest in the city in terms of capacity. Minors are admitted to the shelter on a 24-hour basis.
