Brest Fortress to unveil new museum exposition in 2018

BREST, 15 August (BelTA) – The Brest Fortress will prepare a new museum exposition by the end of the year, BelTA learned from director of the memorial complex Grigory Bysyuk.

The Brest Fortress is implementing a Union State project that envisages overhaul, restoration and preservation of structures located at the memorial complex. “Works are in progress in the half-tower of the southeastern barrack, on the ruins of the barrack of the 333rd rifle regiment. Basements and the roof of the southwestern barrack near the Terespol Gate are being repaired,” Grigory Bysyuk said. After the overhaul works are done, a new museum exposition will be created. The Museum of War - Territory of Peace opened there in 2014.

Visitors will get an opportunity to examine the half-tower. Seven halls will tell a story of the Brest Fortress since its inception till the end of the Great Patriotic War. Cutting-edge technologies are to be used for the exposition. The administration and specialists of the memorial complex are now working on the design and artistic solutions of the exposition. The exposition is to be opened in December.

Over RUB319.2 million was earmarked from the Union State budget for 2018-2020 to preserve the structures of the Brest Fortress. The project is structured into 16 activities related to overhaul, restoration, conservation and preservation of facilities of the memorial complex.

The Brest Fortress is among the most visited sites of Belarus and the CIS. In January-July 2018 it welcomed 390,000 tourists from over 30 countries. Since the opening of the Defense Museum in 1956, the legendary citadel overlooking the Bug River was visited by over 24 million people.
