MOSCOW, 7 August (BelTA) – Most Belarusian voters who live in Moscow have already taken part in early voting in the 2020 Belarus presidential election and cast their votes for prosperous and stable Belarus. The media interviewed some of the voters at the polling station in the Belarusian Embassy in Russia, BelTA has learned.
Olga Aleksandrova works in the center of Moscow and lives on the outskirts of the Russian capital. She decided to vote early in order to save time on Election Day. “I vote for stability,” she said. The voter would like to see Belarus as a prosperous state in the future. “I vote for no war,” Olga Aleksandrova added.
“I vote for a strong Belarus, for stability, for everything it has gained during the years of independence,” Belarusian voter Valery Zakharov said. He believes that on 9 August there will surely be a lot of voters at the polling station in the embassy, and decided to do it earlier to avoid standing in a line.
Aleksandra Ivanovskaya was motivated by similar reasons in her decision to vote early. “I am for stability and changes for the better," the voter told reporters.
Voting in the presidential election of Belarus is organized in three Russian cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad. The polling stations have been set up at the Belarusian diplomatic institutions for citizens of Belarus, permanent residents or temporarily staying in the territory of the Russian Federation, diplomats and their families, employees of the integration organizations.
Due to the coronavirus certain adjustments have been made to the electoral process and the work of the precinct commission in Moscow: the Russian capital still enforces the safety measures: masks in public places, social distancing, no mass events. The Belarusian Embassy in Russia complies with these requirements: the number of voters at the polling station is limited, social distancing is enforced. For those who do not have their own means of protection, disinfectants, medical masks, and disposable pens are provided on site.
