Belarusian universities ready to train specialists for innovative economy of Uzbekistan

MINSK, 30 July (BelTA) - Belarus is ready to organize training of specialists for the innovative economy of Uzbekistan, Belarus Education Minister Igor Karpenko told the media on the margins of the 1st Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is ready to respond to the needs of the Uzbekistan labor market and quickly organize training of specialists for the innovative economy across a wide range of specialties, including IT which is necessary for the development of the digital economy, trade and economic cooperation, assembly plants and others,” the minister said.

Igor Karpenko recalled that the joint Belarusian-Uzbek faculties were set up in 2018, and today more than 400 Uzbek citizens are enrolled in Belarusian universities. He proposed to expand cooperation not only in higher education but also in vocational training. Plans are in place to set up a Belarus-Uzbek interbranch institute of applied qualifications which will offer online programs of retraining and improvement of skills in the specialties strategically important for Uzbekistan. This will make a good basis for the cooperation in education, the minister is sure.

The minister also highlighted academic mobility, including internships, exchange of professors and students, joint training of academic staff. Internship programs for the faculty and staff of Uzbek universities can be headquartered at the BNTU Polytechnik Technopark which reached an agreement on long-term science and innovation cooperation with Islam Karimov Tashkent State Technical University in January. These days Minsk is hosting pro-rectors for science and innovations of the academic institutes of Uzbekistan on the internship trip. “We see this as the first step in cooperation in science and technology,” the minster said.
