Belarusian senators approve bill on state youth policy

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) - Senators approved the bill “On the changes to the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On the state youth policy” at the tenth session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus of the seventh convocation on 26 September, BelTA has learned.

The bill was presented to the senators by Education Minister Andrei Ivanets. “The draft law provides a new area of the state youth policy - support of youth initiatives. The implementation of this area will help support projects and initiatives of youth public organizations. Budgetary financing is provided here. Funds will be allocated on a competitive basis. The BRSM Youth Union is defined as a coordinator of youth initiatives in the draft law,” he said.

The draft law envisages a norm about setting up military-patriotic clubs with a view to enhancing military-patriotic education of the youth.

“The adoption of the draft law will help improve the state youth policy, stimulate the involvement of young people in active social practice and increase their civic responsibility,” the minister stressed.

"The draft law clarifies the goals of the state youth policy, expands the authority of the Education Ministry in the implementation of certain areas of the state youth policy. The document specifies measures to promote healthy lifestyles among young people, expand approaches to support youth public organizations, and update the conceptual apparatus of the law,” said Chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Social Development Viktor Liskovich.

“The adoption of this bill builds on the updated Constitution, Article 32 of which clearly states that the government creates conditions for the development of the potential of our youth,” said Oleg Dyachenko, deputy chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Social Development. “That is why the bill includes the principles that continue the development of these provisions of the Constitution. The bill is primarily aimed at creating legal conditions for the youth to implement constructive projects and various initiatives. In the near future this law will be enacted - and young people, not only united within constructive public organizations, but also initiatives, will be able to receive financial support from the state. We will be able to consider these projects more constructively and implement them for the benefit of our entire society,” he added.
