GOMEL, 7 June (BelTA) – On 7 June Sofia Sapega, a Russian citizen pardoned by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, was released from the Gomel prison and handed over to Russia's Primorye Territory delegation led by Governor Oleg Kozhemyako, BelTA has learned.

“Aleksandr Grigoryevich signed a pardon yesterday upon our request. I think that this decision is important for you too,” Oleg Kozhemyako said addressing the pardoned woman.

“I would like to thank President Aleksandr Grigoryevich Lukashenko for this decision that means a lot to me and my family, for the opportunity to return home, to my mother and father, for giving me a second chance. Not many got this chance, but I was really lucky,” Sofia Sapega said sharing her first emotions.

Oleg Kozhemyako wished the girl to be happy. “You will be able to focus on your life, on your family. There is always an opportunity to mend one's ways, take a look around, draw some conclusions. And most importantly, you will be able to direct your untapped potential and energy into projects that will make you feel good. There is nothing better than being free and doing what you love,” the governor stressed.
“That's right,” said the pardoned woman.
