Belarusian peace-keepers to leave for Lebanon on 2 August

MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Three Belarusian military men will depart for Lebanon on 2 August on a mission to restore international peace and security as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), BelTA learned from the press service of the Defense Ministry.

Two people will join the staff of the West sector as part of the Italian contingent. The third military man will replace a Belarusian doctor who works in the military hospital of the mission.

The military men received a briefing under the guidance of Oleg Voinov, Chief of the International Military Cooperation Department at the Defense Ministry. According to the ministry, the briefing was needed to test the readiness of the military men and to explain to them some peculiarities of their service.

It is the first time Belarusian military men will work as part of the Italian contingent of the UNIFIL. “It became possible due to the technical agreement on cooperation within the framework of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon that was signed by the defense ministry of Belarus and Italy in October 2019,” the Belarusian Defense Ministry added.
