Belarusian MPs encouraged to stay in touch with voters

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Voters expect to be able to talk directly to MPs and submit concrete proposals on ways to resolve the problems they worry about, BelTA learned from Director of the Sociological and Political Studies Center of the Belarusian State University, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Professor David Rotman.

As a person entrusted with representing interests of people in the parliament an MP has to clearly know what the voters want. “You have to talk to voters face to face as much as possible while making suggestions how to resolve problems. Then the MP and his or her voters will have complete trust in each other,” the expert believes.

David Rotman noted that voters are rather active during the current elections. The voter turnout has already exceeded projections of the Sociological and Political Studies Center. Results of the polls had indicated that over 60% of the voters had intended to participate in voting. As of 18:00 the voter turnout stood at 70.72%.
