Belarusian military participate in Shanghai Cooperation Organization command post exercise

MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – Belarusian military personnel are taking part in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization counterterrorism command post exercise Peaceful Mission 2021. The exercise is scheduled to take place in the military training area Donguzsky, Orenburg Oblast, Russia on 20-24 September, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

Taking part in the exercise are about 5,500 military personnel from Belarus, Russia, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Over 1,200 weapon systems, military and special hardware units have been deployed. The Belarusian contingent is built around a special operations unit of the army.

During the exercise the military personnel will practice ways to counter the new tactical tricks that international terrorist groups employ. They will practice fighting flying drones and preventing terrorist attacks that use chemical and biological weapons.

A conference of the chiefs of the general staffs of the armies of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states will take place in the military training area Donguzsky on 23 September. Belarus will be represented by Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, First Deputy Defense Minister of Belarus, Major-General Viktor Gulevich.
