Belarusian helicopter helps fight forest fires in Turkey

MINSK, 7 June (BelTA) – Aviators of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry continue working in Turkey, the ministry's press service told BelTA.

The crew of a Belarusian Mi-8 helicopter carried out five flights from a base in the city of Seferihisar last weekend. The total time in flight exceeded nine hours. The helicopter dropped water on fires 42 times (over 200 tonnes). Fourteen rescue workers were delivered to sites of fires near the populated locality of Yali. The helicopter also delivered food, water, and gear for the Turkish firefighters on the ground. The helicopter had to hover to land people and their gear. The hover mode is used by the most experienced crews in the absence of appropriate landing sites in a mountainous area.

The Belarusian helicopter crew once again went on duty in the city of Seferihisar today and is ready to carry out combat missions.
