Belarusian health resorts reduce prices amid demand plunge

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – Given the declining demand, Belarusian health resorts has designed a system of discounts, Director of the Belarusian National Center for Recuperation and Health Resort Treatment Gennady Bolbatovsky, said in an interview with the STV channel on 31 May, BelTA has learned.

“Given the declining demand, health resorts have come up with a system of discounts. Today vouchers are selling below the Q1 prices. In the first quarter the average cost of a voucher for a standard double room was a little more than Br58. Today, vouchers , including for the summer period, cost about Br50, Gennady Bolbatovsky said.

According to him, the system is gearing up for the summer health recuperation season. “The National Center for Recuperation and Health Resort Treatment put a brake on the issuance of vouchers from 1 May. Therefore, most health resorts stood idle. Therefore, those health resorts that are open today are operating well below the capacity, just over 10%. These are about 40 health resorts that did not close amid the pandemic. All in all, there are 105 health resorts in our system. In Q1, despite the current situation, the spa treatment sector posted good results in terms of sale of vouchers and export of services. Nothing critical, including from the economic point of view, has happened. In the near future we will resume providing spa and health recuperation services to our clients," Gennady Bolbatovsky said.

Gennady Bolbatovsky stressed that Belarusian health resorts would be ready to welcome COVID-19 survivors for rehabilitation. “More than half of the health resorts in the country specialize in the treatment of respiratory diseases. We are buying additional equipment for the treatment and rehabilitation of such patients,” he explained. All information will be available on the websites of the Belarusian health resorts or on the information portal sanatorii.by.

Opportunities to book holiday at Belarusian health resorts are still many. “There's plenty of options for June. As for August, there has been no mass cancellation of reservations, even among foreigners. We monitor the situation every day, including the number of cancellations. Now the number of cancellations has stabilized. Most health resorts will start working from 1 June,” the director of the center said.

It is expected that about 700,000 people will use the vouchers sponsored from the budget and the State Social Protection Fund this year.
