MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) – Despite difficulties Belarus' energy industry is finishing the year with decent results. Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich mentioned it during a solemn event timed to Energy Industry Worker's Day, BelTA has learned.

According to Viktor Karankevich, the year 2022 has not been simple. “A lot of factors affected the operation of the energy industry but the year is ending with decent results. The realization of the most important projects was secured. The construction and modernization of new power substations were enabled. It represented a sizeable contribution to the development of the power grid. Those substations were commissioned in Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast, and Minsk Oblast and provide for maximum automation and digitization of technological processes,” the official noted. “Apart from that, the reconstruction and construction of about 1,300 power grids of different voltages were enabled. But the Belarusian nuclear power plant remains the most powerful installation of the national energy industry. The nuclear power plant's first unit is already operational. It has already generated about 10.5 billion kWh of electricity since November 2020.”

The most complicated tasks are being accomplished thanks to support by the head of state, thanks to accumulated experience of the Belarusian energy system, thanks to technological and innovative potential, Viktor Karankevich stressed. “All these accomplishments have been made possible by people, by veterans, who laid a most powerful foundation. All of it is treasured, preserved, and passed on to the next generation,” he added.

The energy minister also read out the president's congratulation on the occasion of Energy Industry Worker's Day and awarded outstanding representatives of the energy industry.

The solemn ceremony timed to Energy Industry Worker's Day took place at the Energy Ministry. Similar events took place all over the country on 22 December.
