Belarusian Embassy in Latvia helps over 100 Belarusians return home

MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) - The Belarusian Embassy in Latvia has helped more than 100 Belarusians return home, Belarusian Ambassador to Latvia Vasily Markovich told BelTA.

“Due to the current situation related to coronavirus, many Belarusians had to turn to us for help. As of today, we have helped more than 100 citizens of our country to return home. Tomorrow we will send home 140 Belarusian children who are holidaying in Jurmala, at the Belarus health resort. People are still applying to the embassy for help, although in smaller numbers. None of the requests is left unattended. We always keep in touch with our citizens," the diplomat said.

For example, the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Latvia has recently helped the mother of a Belarusian citizen to return home. The woman was due to leave Latvia on 16 March, but Lithuania closed its borders and the trip was canceled. “The embassy workers in Latvia kept in touch with us, promised assistance with crossing the Latvian-Belarus border, informed us about the bus service, and purchased a ticket for my mother enlisting the help of the Consulate General in Daugavpils. Knowing that an embassy employee would be waiting right at the station with a ticket was invaluable. There was no need to worry and look for other options,” the daughter of the woman said in her letter of gratitude to the embassy.

Anyone who needs help can apply to the embassy. A 24-hour emergency help line has been set up. Those currently in Daugavpils and nearby regions can call at +371 26 377 825 and those in other regions of Latvia are advised to call +371 25 767 371, +371 27 812 901.
