Belarusian diplomats celebrate Victory Day

MINSK, 11 May (BelTA) - Belarusian diplomats celebrated Victory Day by taking part in both traditional commemorative campaigns and various events in social networks, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian diplomats in Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Uzbekistan, France and other countries laid wreaths at war memorials and monuments, tidied up military graves of Soviet soldiers, including at the Brodno cemetery in Warsaw, and met with war veterans to wish them Happy Victory Day.

The project in memory of the employees of the BSSR foreign policy department who went to the war has been launched on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The online Book of Remembrance contains recollections of the MFA employees about the war and memorable stories of diplomats of the Second World War generation.

The Belarusian Embassy in France together with Russian colleagues prepared a video concert which was available from 16.00 (Paris time) on 9 May. The link was posted on the embassy's Facebook page. The oldest participant of the virtual concert was Lev Sheikman, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War from Belarus.

The cultural and educational association of Belarusians in Jordan, with the support of the country's embassy in Syria, has set up a thematic Facebook page. The Belarusians living abroad were invited to recite a wartime poem in Belarusian and post a video. The project featured the Belarusians living in Jordan, Italy, Latvia, UAE, USA, Turkey, Ukraine, Estonia and other countries .

The Permanent Mission of Belarus to the UN together with CIS partners shared the interesting facts about the contribution of their countries to the common Victory on their social media accounts.

The permanent representations of Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe confirmed the unity and inviolability of approaches to Victory Day in a joint statement. “By honoring the heroes who forged Victory on the battlefields and on the labor front during the past war we make a common contribution to preserving the historical memory of the heroism of our peoples and of the price we all paid for peace and progress. The lessons of that terrible war must remain a moral guide for all progressive humanity and a driving force,” the statement reads.
