Belarusian defense contractor makes face shields for medics

VITEBSK, 7 April (BelTA) – The Vitebsk-based company OAO Display Design Office has started making face shields for medical workers, BelTA has learned.

Several prototypes were made last week. They were handed over to Vitebsk medics for testing and evaluation. After hearing their remarks the company adjusted the design and went to full production. The company's Deputy Chief Engineer Sergei Shcheglov noted: “Our equipment allows making 150 face shields per day. We have the materials, we use them to make the main product lineup. But the demand of healthcare institutions for face shields is on the rise, this is why we are going to buy more raw materials.”

Two laser machining systems are now used to make the face shields. Parts of the fasteners are made out of organic glass. The shield itself is made using a laser cutting technology. OAO Display Design Office intends to have the products certified by the Healthcare Ministry. “We are working on it in order to get it done as fast as possible,” the executive added.

In Vitebsk various companies, which have laser beam machines and 3D printers at their disposal, have started making protective shields. Private companies donate these shields to the city's healthcare institutions for free.
