Belarusian Children's Hospice receives gifts from CIS

MINSK, 26 December (BelTA) - A delegation of the CIS Executive Committee headed by First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee – CIS Executive Secretary Viktor Guminsky visited the Belarusian Children's Hospice to wish children a Happy New Year as part of the Our Children charity campaign, BelTA has learned.

The history between the CIS Executive Committee multinational team and the children's hospice goes back to 2015 when the CIS donated the money raised by the CIS countries for the new building of the hospice which was under construction.

Every year the CIS Executive Committee hands over special medical equipment to the center for palliative care for children, donates money, visits the center with toys, New Year decorations and sweets to wish children a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

This year the center has also received, in addition to financial assistance, three TV sets and Arts & Crafts sets. According to the hospice, the money provided by the CIS Executive Committee will be spent on acquisition of the necessary medical equipment to take care of little patients.

“Taking part in the Our Children charity campaign has become a good tradition for the CIS Executive Committee. We have visited the Belarusian Children's Hospice in Borovlyany for the fifth year in a row. This year it turns 25. This is the first children's hospice in the CIS. It was opened thanks to the efforts of peoplededicated to improving the quality of life for critically ill children,” Viktor Guminsky said.

According to him, the children's hospice does a great job to provide palliative care and prolong the life of terminally ill children and support their parents. “It is a good example of public-private partnership when state, organizations and concerned people offer the support they can,” Viktor Guminsky underlined.

The positive experience of Belarus in providing palliative care for children was also hailed by Bolot Saipov, deputy director of the department for security cooperation and countering new challenges and threats at the CIS Executive Committee. “We would like to apply such practice in Kyrgyzstan. This topic will be considered during meetings of our sectoral councils to extend the positive experience of Belarus to all CIS countries,” he added.
