Belarusian border service to look into international experience of accommodating detainees

MINSK, 18 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian border service will look into the international experience of how detained persons are accommodated. The relevant agreement has been signed with Lithuania, representatives of the State Border Committee of Belarus told BelTA.

A partnership agreement on implementing a technical aid program for building a migrant accommodation center in the town of Pabrade was signed in the border checkpoint Medininkai on 18 March.

The State Border Committee of Belarus is taking part in a large-scale project, which is being implemented within the framework of the European Union's transboundary cooperation program Latvia-Lithuania-Belarus for the 2014-2020 period. The Lithuanian border service is the key beneficiary of the technical aid. Belarusian border service officers will take part in four seminars in Belarus and Lithuania. International standards for accommodating detainees and European experience in this field will be examined during the seminars.

The Belarusian border service previously signed a similar partnership agreement with the Lithuanian border service as part of preparations for the BOMBEL-4 project. It provides for developing telecommunication infrastructure at the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, with the State Border Committee of Belarus acting as the key beneficiary of technical aid.
