Belarusian aviation delivers humanitarian aid amid COVID-19 pandemic

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian aviation has started operating humanitarian flights to help combat the coronavirus pandemic, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Transport and Communications Ministry.

For example, a Boeing 747 of the Transaviaexport air carrier delivered humanitarian cargo, including face masks, gloves, protective gear, and other medical goods, from China to Serbia. “Belarusian pilots who flew the aircraft observed all the necessary safety precautions in line with the WHO recommendations,” the press service noted.

The ministry pointed out that civil aviation is among the worst-hit industries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “This industry is crucial for the development of business, trade, and humanitarian cooperation. The Aviation Department of the Transport and Communications Ministry in association with the Belavia air carrier and the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is making every effort to retain air traffic with Moscow,” Director of the Aviation Department Artem Sikorsky said. Belarus also continues work to bring home its citizens who are stranded abroad.
