Belarusian army busy shipping military hardware to Russia for Union Shield 2019 exercise

MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) – Preparations for the Belarusian-Russian army exercise Union Shield 2019 are now in full swing. Belarusian army units have started loading their military hardware in order to ship it to Nizhny Novgorod Oblast where the exercise will take place, representatives of the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

Army engineer units and the law enforcement unit of the Minsk military commandant office will be the first to leave Belarus for Russia.

A total of over 4,000 Belarusian military personnel, over 30 tanks, 80 armored fighting vehicles, about 50 multiple-launch rocket systems, cannons and mortars, about 15 aircraft and helicopters will take part in the exercise.

The Belarusian-Russian army exercise Union Shield 2019 is scheduled to take place in the Mulino exercise area of the Western Military District of the Russian army in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast on 13-19 September. It will be the final stage in the two-year cycle of joint combat training of Belarusian and Russian army units.
