Belarus, Zimbabwe to set up committee on cooperation in science, technology

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – Belarus and Zimbabwe are planning to set up a committee on cooperation in science and technology, Chairman of Belarus' State Science and Technology Committee Alexander Shumilin told the media, BelTA has learned.

Following the talks between the presidents of Belarus and Zimbabwe, the parties signed a range of documents, including a memorandum of cooperation in science, technology and innovations. According to Alexander Shumilin, the document provides for the establishment of a bilateral committee which will develop promising projects in science and technology.

“The committee announces contests of joint projects and each country seeks opportunities to support them,” he explained. Then the projects turn into certain products or technologies.

Alexander Shumilin noted that Zimbabwe is a new market for Belarus. This is why only the most promising areas of cooperation have been outlined. Proposals have been sent to the partners. According to him, joint projects can be launched in agriculture, healthcare, mechanical and instrument engineering, energy. Belarus has achieved high results in these areas and can share its best practices with Zimbabwe.
