Belarus win 16 medals at IKA/Culinary Olympics in Stuttgart

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – Belarus' best pastry chefs 9 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals at the IKA/Culinary Olympics held in Stuttgart, Germany from 15 to 19 February, the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

“More than 2,000 pastry chefs from all over the world took part in the IKA/Culinary Olympics. In five days they prepared 22,000 dishes. Belarusian pastry chefs presented the most complex art compositions of chocolate, gumpaste, marzipan, pastillage and salt dough using various techniques,” the press service said.

Belarus' gold winners are Svetlana Aleskevich, Natalia Velentsevich, Lyudmila Pashkovskaya (Minskkhebprom), Veronika Gabrusevich (Gvodnokhlebprom) and Natalia Sambuk (Orshan Bakery) for works of art made of gumpaste, Natalia Sharai (Domochai) and Dmitry Antipenko – chocolate, Valeria Kurchy (Beresteisky baker) - marzipan, and private pastry chef Olga Gotovko – for a pastillage piece.

The silver medalists are Nadezhda Bogatenko and Yelena Dedovets (Vitebskkhlebprom), Natalia Minchenkova and Elena Akhartseva (Domochai), Natalia Goncharuk (Grodnokhlebprom). Their works were made of chocolate, salt dough and gumpaste.

Bronze went to Marina Morozova (Orsha Bakery) for a composition made of salt dough and Yekaterina Marchik (Aromatik) for a gumpaste piece.

IKA/Culinary Olympics is organized by the World Association of Chefs' Societies (WACS) and is held every four years. It is a kind of Olympic Games in the culinary and confectionery industry. In 2016 the team of Belarusian pastry chefs won 5 gold, 11 silver and one bronze medal.
