Belarus, Uzbekistan to bolster ties in science, technology

MINSK, 29 July (BelTA) - Scientists of Belarus and Uzbekistan will bolster ties in science and technology, Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences Vladimir Gusakov said at the panel discussion on cooperation in humanitarian matters, ICT and science during the 1st Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

“The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) and the Ministry of Innovative Development of Uzbekistan are set to sign an agreement on cooperation in science and technology within the framework of the forthcoming official visit of the Uzbekistan president to Belarus,” Vladimir Gusakov noted.

At the end of 2018 a delegation of Belarusian scientists visited the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan. “We discussed a number of issues, including the implementation of joint projects and cooperation in physics, new materials, and biotechnology. In April this year, following our meeting with the minister of innovation development of Uzbekistan we reached an agreement on internship and post-graduate programs of Uzbek specialists in the NASB. We also agreed to continue joint training and scientifically-practical conferences and seminars. I would like to note that this agreement is already being implemented: young scientists from Uzbekistan have already started on their internship programs in Belarus,” Vladimir Gusakov informed.

Scholars from the two countries plan to implement a joint project to study the history of the participation of the Uzbeks in the combat operations on the territory of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War. “Soon we all will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Victory. I believe that our peoples must forever carry pride in their hearts and the truth about the great feat of our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers. Our joint research will contribute to this noble cause,” Vladimir Gusakov added.
