MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Türkiye maintain very candid, friendly relations, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Türkiye to the Republic of Belarus Mustafa Özcan said as he met with Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova in Minsk on 3 March, BelTA has learned.

“Very sincere, friendly relations have been established between our countries. Today, Türkiye is going through a very difficult period. Of course, there are good times and there are bad times. It is easier to weather the storm when you have mutual understanding, solidarity and respect,” Mustafa Özcan said.

The powerful earthquakes that rocked Türkiye were a real shock for the country, the ambassador said. “On 6 February two very strong earthquakes occurred, followed by thousands of aftershocks. They were comparable to the explosion of a dozen atomic bombs. The country moved westward by 4-5 meters, such was the scale of these earthquakes. The earthquakes directly affected 14 million people, which is even more than the population of Belarus. Hundreds of thousands of houses were destroyed. It is already known that 45,000 citizens of the Republic of Türkiye died, hundreds of thousands were injured,” he added.
