MINSK, 24 April (BelTA) – Belarus expects to receive an experimental drug for treating COVID-19 patients soon, Belarus Deputy Healthcare Minister Yelena Bogdan told journalists on 24 April, BelTA has learned.
As many as 1,120 COVID-19 patients have recovered in Belarus, which is 12.7% of the total number of cases. “We are using everything there is to treat coronavirus patients. We expect to receive the experimental drug next week,” Yelena Bogdan said.
She noted that all leading Belarusian pharmaceutical companies and research institutes are searching for methods to treat patients with the coronavirus infection. The National Scientific and Practical Center of Transfusiology and Medical Biotechnology has launched a research project to use immune blood plasma of coronavirus survivors in treating COVID-19 patients. Yelena Bogdan thanked 25 donors who helped save eight lives in Minsk, Vitebsk, and Lida.
Yelena Bogdan called on all survivors to follow their example. “This is just the beginning of our new research project, but the results we have got so far give hope that this is a good method of treatment,” Yelena Bogdan stressed.
