Belarus to bolster ties with China in science

MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) intends to bolster ties with China's academies of sciences, Chairman of the NASB Presidium Vladimir Gusakov told the media on 25 April.

“We have been steadily developing cooperation with China. We have concluded agreements with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and several provincial academies of sciences and have set up joint laboratories. Chinese scientists are frequent guests in Belarus. We discuss various projects, review results of our research, define areas of future cooperation. We will strengthen relations with China in all areas, including drone manufacturing,” Vladimir Gusakov said.

In 2018, the NASB became a co-founder and a full member of the Alliance of International Science Organizations in the Belt and Road Region (ANSO). With the support from the Chinese partners, 19 international research centers and laboratories have been established set up at the academy. In 2018, its organizations received over $1.7 million in line with the contracts with the Chinese partners.

A session of the General Meeting of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is in progress in Minsk today. The General Meeting is the supreme collegiate authority to run the academy of sciences. Taking part in the session are about 500 representatives of academic science, university science, and industry science, young Belarusian scientists and representatives of government agencies. Participants of the session are set to discuss results of the work done in 2018, tor review the development tasks for 2019 and amendments to the regulation on electing members of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The program of the event also includes the exhibition “Young Academy – IT Country” which features young scientists' developments using information technologies for various areas: robotics, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, smart materials, IT in healthcare, and others.
