Belarus' Svitanak rehabilitation center to welcome nearly 300 children from Russia

PINSK DISTRICT, 15 October (BelTA) – The Svitanak rehabilitation and recreation center in Pinsk District will welcome 280 children from Russia by the end of the year, BelTA learned from director of the center Valentina Begeba.

Every year about 6,000 children undergo recuperation and rehabilitation in the center, including about 5,000 children from the areas affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The majority of children come from Brest Oblast and Gomel Oblast. “Our center operates using a self-financing model. We cooperate with other regions of the country and the Union State Standing Committee. Every year we take part in tenders and have been winning them for the past five years. We host children from Tula Oblast, Bryansk Oblast, Kaluga Oblast and Altai Krai. This year 280 children from Russian regions will spend time in the center,” Valentina Begeba informed.

The recuperation programs for Russian children are available from September to December. “Children from Russia look forward to coming to us. We offer them excursions to Pinsk, Brest, Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park, Minsk, Mir and Nesvizh. During a 21-day tour, we show them nearly half of Belarus,” the director said.

The Svitanak rehabilitation and recreation center is hosting a national seminar of the Education Ministry and the National Center for Health Improvement and Sanatorium Treatment of Population. Experts are set to take stock of the 2019 recuperation program. The Svitanak center was chosen the venue for the seminar for a reason. The center introduced new forms of children's recuperation and new approaches to international cooperation. In fact, in July-August the center arranged a 24/7 international camp Rescuer. Invitations to spend time in the camp were sent to about 100 children from Brest Oblast and Poland.

“Although there were not so many Polish children, the center got in the spotlight. We were invited to Poland to sign agreements to host a bigger number of children next year. We plan to welcome them in July,” Valentina Begeba said.
