Belarus, Russia's Novosibirsk Oblast seek closer cooperation in education

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – Belarus' Education Minister Igor Karpenko is on a visit to Novosibirsk Oblast of Russia on 16-18 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Education Ministry.

During a visit to Novosibirsk State Technical University on 16 June, Igor Karpenko met with Minister of Education of Novosibirsk Oblast Sergey Fedorchuk, Rector of the university Anatoly Bataev and the academic staff of the university.

At present Novosibirsk State Technical University is one of the largest universities in the region. The university teaches more than 13,200 students, employs more than 1,500 teachers, provides training in 95 areas and five majors of higher education - natural sciences, technology, economics and humanities, as well as seven specialties and areas of secondary vocational education. Since 2005, the university has been introducing a combined (full-time and distance) form of education on the basis of the Institute of Distance Learning. The university is a participant of the experiment to implement the Bologna process credit system.

At the meeting the parties discussed issues of further development of effective mutually beneficial partnerships between higher education institutions of Belarus and Novosibirsk Oblast.

Cooperation between Novosibirsk State Technical University and Belarusian universities is based on the agreement on cooperation in science, technology, culture, sports, student and academic mobility of Novosibirsk State Technical University signed with the Belarusian State University for 2016-2021, with the Belarusian-Russian University for 2017-2022, the cooperation agreements signed with Brest State Technical University for 2018-2023, with Vitebsk State Technological University, Polotsk State University for 2017-2027.

The education minister of Belarus was shown the university infrastructure, classrooms and laboratories, visited the international Russian-Belarusian center for interregional cooperation in education, science and culture. The center has been set up to establish and develop effective mutually beneficial partnerships between scientific, educational, social, cultural, youth and sports organizations of Mogilev Oblast and Novosibirsk Oblast; organize participation in international scientific, educational, sports, cultural events held on the basis of the founders of the center, get citizens of Belarus and Russia familiar with the history, culture and traditions of the peoples, their achievements in economy, science, culture and sports.

“We attach great importance to the activities of the international Russian-Belarusian center for interregional cooperation in education, science and culture, the founders of which are Novosibirsk State Technical University, Belarusian-Russian University, Novosibirsk Center of Belarusian Culture, the social and cultural public association Heritage,” said Igor Karpenko.

A large number of events has been held as part of the center's activities to promote cultures and national traditions, which greatly contributes to strengthening friendship, mutual support and active development of bilateral cooperation. The project implemented last year - the interethnic cultural online dialogue Russia and Belarus 2020 - became an important educational and cultural platform aimed at supporting and strengthening the Union State and the common historical heritage of the peoples.

Igor Karpenko also visited Novosibirsk State University of Economics and Management, where he discussed further ways of developing cooperation in education with the leadership of the university.
