MINSK, 22 December (BelTA) - The development of integration within the Union State is mutually beneficial for Belarus and Russia, the political analyst Aleksei Dzermant told BelTA.
The expert emphasized the importance of the document on the Union State creation, which was signed on 8 December 1999. The treaty came into force on 26 January 2000.
“The conclusion of the Union State Treaty let Belarus set the course for progressive development. This union is multifaceted in many ways. First of all, for Belarus it means security, economic preferences, development of cultural and social ties and many other things,” he stressed.
According to the political analyst, the Union State is a unique integration project implemented in the former Soviet Union space. Remaining sovereign states, Belarus and Russia have achieved a greater degree of integration in all sectors than in any other existing integration formations.
“This step stemmed from the fact that we did not destroy ties, but on the contrary - we started transforming and strengthening them, doing our best to make them meet the new needs of people. That step was the only right one for Belarus. Thus, we have ensured progressive development and successful future,” Aleksei Dzermant added.
