Belarus, Russia to promote patriotic education

MINSK, 28 September (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia intend to strengthen the role of patriotic education in society, Vadim Lakiza, deputy director at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, told the media ahead of the panel discussion "The feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War at the heart of patriotic education and civic responsibility" as part of the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Minsk on 28 September, BelTA has learned.

"During the panel discussion we will hear the reports on the events of World War II and World War II, on the historical policy and education. The fact that we will work online will not affect the adoption of the resolution. We will work out ways to strengthen the role of humanitarian subjects and patriotic education in the society of Belarus and Russia," Vadim Lakiza said.

The expert emphasized the importance of involving the youth in the efforts to preserve national memory about the Great Patriotic War. He stressed that the development of the historical worldview, human security and war memory lie at the heart of civic-patriotic education.

An exhibition for the 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia has been organized in the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. Archival documentary materials, photos, books and historical artifacts show the heroic and victorious way of the people in the Great Patriotic War, initiatives to immortalize the memory of the events and heroes of the war for civil-patriotic education of generations. An exhibition of documents from the National Archive of Belarus and an exposition of the National History Museum have been prepared as well. The Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences presented artifacts found during the study of the Blagoshchina Memorial Complex. The program also includes an exhibition of literature dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.

The 7th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia will be held via videoconferencing on 28 and 29 September. The theme of the forum is Historical Heritage of the Great Victory as a Basis for the Development of Social, Economic and Spiritual Ties between the Peoples of Belarus and Russia. The program includes five sections in several themed areas: parliamentary cooperation, joint economic projects, the feat of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, counteraction to the glorification of Nazism, increasing the activity of the rural youth. There will also be a joint session of the Business Councils of Belarus and Russia and a high-level expert session on Education as the Basis of Historical Memory and Further Integration Development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

Issues of regional cooperation, implementation of documents adopted at the previous forums, and the development of sci-tech cooperation between the two countries will be considered at the meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission on Inter-regional Cooperation of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.

A plenary session will be held as a central event of the forum to take stock of the work of the sections, discuss key issues and adopt the final document.
