Belarus, Russia to continue efforts to preserve memory of Great Patriotic War

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia will continue cooperation in preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War and the fight against the attempts to falsify the history, State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota told the media during the joint meeting of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Russia on 21 November, BelTA has learned.

“Firstly, this is a closer work of the expert community. I mean not only historians, but also cultural workers. Secondly, this is coordination of positions of international organizations on the matter. Thirdly, this is the perpetuation of the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War,” said Grigory Rapota.

In addition, Belarus and Russia are planning a joint textbook on the history of the Great Patriotic War. “This is a very good idea, in my opinion. We will see how we can contribute to this project,” Grigory Rapota noted.

He stressed that the Union State has always attached great attention to the efforts to preserve the memory about the war. “In 2019 we are planning two projects. Firstly, we will invest heavily in the development of the Brest Fortress museum complex. Secondly, we will finance the project to set up a memorial in Rzhev,” Grigory Rapota said.
