Belarus, Russia discuss sporting event security matters

MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) – Safety and security challenges during international sporting events were discussed at a joint board meeting of the Interior Ministries of the Belarus-Russia Union State in Novopolotsk, BelTA learned from the Information and PR Department of the Interior Ministry of Belarus.

The agenda of the meeting included matters related to cooperation in road safety and security during major international sporting events. Attending the meeting was a delegation of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs headed by Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev.

The border units of the road police work closely to identify and detain persons involved in vehicle theft or hit and run cases. The parties exchanged requests for the enforcement of decisions on the imposition of sentences for violations of traffic rules, information on registered vehicles, registration documents and driving licenses.

One of the main areas of cross-border cooperation is the implementation of a coordinated migration policy, including control over the movement of fans. Measures are taken to restrict the entry to the Union State for people who have violated migration legislation. Today the general list includes more than 1 million foreigners.

Close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia has helped the Belarusian police to study security experience gained during the 27th World Summer Universiade in Kazan (2013), the 22nd Olympic Winter Games and the 11th Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi (2014), and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
