MINSK, 18 January (BelTA) – Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Armed Forces of Belarus Andrei Lukyanovich identified goals of the Belarusian-Russian air force exercise, which is taking place under his supervision, BelTA has learned.
The Defense Ministry press service quoted Andrei Lukyanovich as saying: “The exercise involves units belonging to the aviation component of the Belarus-Russia regional military force. The exercise includes two stages. All the airfields and military training areas of the Air Force and Air Defense Command of the Armed Forces of Belarus are used as part of the exercise.”
The key purpose of the exercise is to improve operational compatibility of Belarusian and Russian aerial units. They will have to carry out a broad range of combat training tasks. Starting with aerial reconnaissance, joint patrolling of the Belarusian state border in the air space, and aviation control using a remote radar detection and control aircraft A-50. This aircraft allows expanding the radar field virtually all over Belarus. Apart from that, the landing of tactical assault forces will be practiced as well as freight transportation, aviation support, fighter cover, and evacuation of wounded personnel.
