Belarus releases postage stamps commemorating artists of Paris school

MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) - The Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies of Belarus released the postage stamps from the series "Artists of the Paris school from Belarus", BelTA learned from the ministry. The first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony was held on 29 September.

The new stamps include “Ossip Zadkine. The Lake. 1925”, “Chaim Soutine. Eva. 1928”, “Marc Chagall. Lovers. 1981”, “Ossip Lubitch. Landscape with a red roof”.

The exhibition project "Artists of the Paris school from Belarus" has grown from the corporate art collection of Belgazprombank which currently has more than 60 artifacts. The collection was launched in 2011. Belgazprombank cooperates closely with the National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and culture, National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus. The project has been prepared with the assistance of the Center for Visual and Performing Arts “ART Corporation” under the auspices of the Collective Management of Copyright Society ADAGP (Paris, France).

Belgazprombank's corporate collection is recognized as one of the largest collections of works by expressionist artists of the Paris school not only in Belarus but also in Eastern and Central Europe. Many of the art pieces acquired by Belgazprombank have been included in the national list of historical-cultural heritage of Belarus.

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies and the Belpochta mail service have been paying much attention to the popularization of the cultural heritage of Belarus. A total of 1,088 stamps have been released since 1992. More than 300 of them are devoted to national culture, art, architecture, and literature.

In 2013, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies began to release a series of commemorative envelopes with the unique postage stamp dedicated to the art of prominent artists (Vitaly Tsvirko, Yazep Drozdovich, Pavel Maslenikov, Adolf Gugel, and others).
