Belarus police question accuracy of missing persons lists posted on internet

MINSK, 18 August (BelTA) - The Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends verifying thoroughly the information about the citizens who were reported missing from 9 to 13 August. Very often this information turns out to be inaccurate, official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Olga Chemodanova said in her Telegram channel, BelTA has learned.

“The criminal police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have checked the information regarding more than 70 participants of the unsanctioned rallies (held in the country from 9 to 13 August) that has been published on the website tut.by and in various social networks. This information is not fully accurate: many of these citizens have been found at home, while the information about them is not timely removed from these internet resources,” Olga Chemodanova said.

The information regarding only one woman on this list is accurate. She was reported missing on 6 August.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs asks citizens to verify the information and to be critical to the data posted online. “If you still cannot locate your family members, please apply to the internal affairs authorities first rather than the internet resources,” the ministry said.
