Belarus, Pakistan to cooperate in preventing emergencies

MINSK, 4 January (BelTA) – Belarus and Pakistan intend to advance cooperation in the prevention and alleviation of consequences of emergencies, representatives of the Embassy of Belarus in Pakistan told BelTA.

These matters were discussed as Ambassador of Belarus to Pakistan Andrei Yermolovich met with Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan (NDMA) Omar Mahmood Hayat on 4 January. Prospects of establishing cooperation between the relevant agencies of Belarus and Pakistan were discussed. In particular, the ambassador informed the chairman about the development of the legal base on preventing and dealing with emergencies. The sharing of the best practices between Belarusian and Pakistani rescue workers was mentioned. The formation of health and safety fundamentals was discussed as well as the establishment of contacts between youth movements of firefighters and rescue workers of Belarus and Pakistan.

During the meeting the Pakistani side was informed about what Belarus can do with regard to training and retraining rescue workers at premises of the Civil Protection University of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry. The delivery of special equipment and gear of Belarusian make to Pakistani rescue workers was mentioned. Omar Mahmood Hayat expressed interest in establishing direct contacts with the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry. He said he was ready to visit Minsk soon in order to get familiar with the operation of Belarusian rescue services in detail.
