MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) - Online technologies may be used in the future in the defense of scientific papers, which will make the process more transparent and objective, Chairman of Belarus' Higher Attestation Commission Gennady Palchik said today during a meeting of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko with representatives of the scientific community, BelTA has learned.
The head of state asked whether Belarus has managed to build an honest and objective process of assigning academic titles.
He noted that he is a supporter of such approaches which will ensure objectivity and will encourage the most deserving scholars. “Dishonesty is unacceptable in science. There should be no family connections, nepotism. Everything should be honest, objective,” the Belarusian leader underlined
“Procedure of the scientific evaluation of all papers was considered within the framework of the legislation. It was a very detailed, thorough and open. We are making steps towards full transparency. Our next step is to represent online possibilities. That is, we provide the publicity and the objectivity of scientific evaluation,” Gennady Palchik noted.
According to him, the work in this direction will be stepwise. “First of all, with online possibilities we will be able to attract foreign scientists to the procedure of defense of scientific papers. It can be leading scientists from Novosibirsk Academgorodok who will be able to take part in the defense of a thesis in Belarus without any loss of time and financial difficulties. This will enhance both our status and objectivity,” Gennady Palchik said.
He added that openness and the involvement of leading foreign scientists will help minimize the human factor in the evaluation of scientific papers.More about Society
