Belarus, Lithuania sign tourism cooperation program for 2019-2020

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) – The Sport and Tourism Ministry of Belarus and the Ministry of Economy of Lithuania have signed a program of cooperation in the tourism sector for 2019-2020, BelTA has learned from the press service of the Sport and Tourism Ministry following a session of the Belarus-Lithuania working group on tourism.

Belarus' delegation was led by Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Mikhail Portnoi; Lithuania's delegation was led by Vice-Minister of Economy Gediminas Miskinis. The parties reviewed the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the tourism industry.

They also discussed ways to raise the tourist appeal of Minsk and Vilnius and the town of Druskininkai, to promote rural and eco-tourism, health resorts and the hospitality sector in the two countries.

According to the National Statistics Committee of Belarus, in 2017 the number of Lithuanians who purchased tours to Belarus rose nearly 4.5 times over 2016 to reach 26,100 (a 15-time increase over 2015).
