MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – The situation in the region is complicated. This is why special services of the Commonwealth of Independent States need to work out additional joint measures to neutralize threats. Chairman of the State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus Ivan Tertel made the relevant statement for mass media after Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with participants of the 52nd session of the CIS Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services in Minsk on 1 June, BelTA has learned.
Ivan Tertel said: “We are working hard in all areas. The situation remains extremely complicated. On the whole, we believe that it will get more complicated in the future. This is why our friendly special services need to work out additional joint measures to neutralize the threats that are evolving right now.”
The remaining threats include conventional ones such as terrorism, drugs trafficking, and new ones arising from the military and political situation in the region. According to Ivan Tertel, these and other matters are being discussed among special services of the CIS states and joint measures are being worked out. “And in these complicated conditions we rely on each other. Despite all the circumstances we help resolve various kinds of problems. We obtain information, which is reported to the heads of state and which is used to make balanced and necessary strategic decisions to ensure the national security of our independent states,” the KGB chief summarized.
